() as it was last year when admission was $10 on Thursday & $5 on Friday. The hope is to expand exposure of our hobby by getting more Las Vegas locals onto the convention floor -- hence the free admission on both Friday & Saturday (versus $5 Friday & free Saturday last year). It used to be that Saturdays were the slowest days at past conventions. Recently, attendance on Saturdays has GREATLY improved, thanks to the decision to make Saturdays free to get in. And really...if spending an extra $5 to get in ($15 in 2014 versus $10 in 2013) is going to be the major factor in determining whether or not you walk through the doors on Thursday, well... I believe that the cost for pre-registration remains the same as last year & includes both a "scrip" chip that can be used on the convention floor, enters the pre-registrant into the drawings for the $25 plaques & allows for early entry into the convention on that first day.
Here's the problem, Rick -- what exactly is the right answer? In my opinion, what's most important is that we find a way to get more people to realize that this hobby exists. One way that has been proven to be effective is allowing free entry onto the convention floor. The club's BoD discussed many, MANY fee options at length & this is the one that we felt would have the greatest exposure impact with the least financial impact. We will find out next year what the real impact was & the club's BoD will determine which direction to go from there.
