In the military (US Army anyway) when shooting for qualification (Expert, Sharpshooter and Marksman in the 70's) if you failed to qualify, you were bolo. "Hey Joe, I qualified as a Marksman. How did you do?" "I boloed and need to requalify!" "Hey everyone, Joe just boled!"
