Doug, that is a great cover. Alice W. Morris opened the place on November 26, 1930 with "Claudie Smith and his Red Hot orchestra." an advertisement in the November 27th said Mr. and Mrs. George Morris were "specializing in wonderful Italian dinners" with a "beautiful atmosphere" and of course the Red Hot Orchestra "3 miles south on the Los Angeles Highway." Six weeks later it was raided and busted for the "sale of intoxicating liquor." But on April 1, 1931 the Rooster was inclued in the first list of gambling licenses issued in Clark County. Morris, with the nickname "Ma" moved to Las Vegas from Butte, Montana. There was a Red Rooster Tavern in Butte, but do not know if Morris was connected with it. I've lost her trail in Montana, but it is not likely "Ma" ran a quiet place, hopefully a Montana collector can shed some light on her history there.
