Advice on rotary watch display needed

So I picked up this cool rotating watch display at a junk shop for next to nothing.
(Yes, I know that's what it looks like it's worth!)

The controls in the back were torn out with just bare wire leads hanging out. That's the way I like stuff.
I took an educated guess at the wire codes, hooked a pig-tail in and darn if the light didn't come on and the unit rotated just fine. It turns to show the front four items, pauses for a bit and then turns to show the next four.
I thought it would be a cool way to show off chips and small collectibles.
(Please stop laughing at me...)

My question for the more experienced folks out there.

1) What's the best way to clean the clear plastic without yellowing it or making it cloudy etc.??? Is there an clear plastic cleaner? Or a homemade solution?

2) The wiring: There's an obvious power lead-in black and white. I pigtailed that and it worked.
Then there's three wires that I am guessing is either a speed control or two speeds. These are black (I'm guessing the feed) and one yellow and one red.
Jumping the black and yellow I get it to work as described above. Jumping the black and red I get motor noise and nothing else.
I have Googled the crap out of this thing to try and find a picture of what the controls looked like before they got torn out and haven't found anything... So if anybody has seen one or worked with one I'd love some advice.

Thank you!
