Forget guns.. just recently a NYC ferry boat had a mishap and injured over 50 people! One in critical condition I read! Congress needs to immediately step up and take action to implement a ban on all ferry boats!

If owning a ferryboat was outlawed, then only outlaws would own ferryboats!

Yes, I agree. People are very over-excited to have our representatives take action and what will that prove? Take a look at both NYC and Chicago where it's illegal to own/carry a gun - and how many murders (by guns) occur there every year? They're up there amongst the highest in the nation! So, that's not going to solve the problem by outlawing them.

However - stricter gun control? Absolutely... we don't need a nut-job getting access to a weapon that can do some serious harm. Sure, make background checks more secure! Sure, put a mandatory 24hr (or even 48-hr) cool-off waiting period. If you want to buy a gun, you're certainly going to have the patience to wait 24 hours. Nobody is taking away any freedoms from you just waiting a little while to buy it.

I'm a proud supporter of the 2nd amendment, and believe that if people want to - should have every right to own and carry a gun.

Finally - the last subject: Well what 'kind' of guns are OK or not ok? Well, you don't need an AK47 or M16 (or BAR) to go duck hunting! In my opinion these and any other weapons that look/function/resemble them have no place in the civilian population. If I want to go deer/elk hunting a 30-06 would work just fine (or something similar).. let's just be reasonable! HOWEVER - this opens up the door to other problems. Why? Because once you/they agree to eliminate the assault weapons, then that somewhat 'opens the door' to them wanting to go a step further, and take away other freedoms and then you have guns that fall into a 'gray' category and may/or may not be qualified. What about semi-automatic weapons? They have just as much potential to take out people as an assault rifle.
So, as you can see - there really isn't a good way to keep the peace between both points of view, and there's your rub. I wish that there is an easy answer to this.

I'm convinced that this will continue to be a problem/issue for the rest of our lives.
