Cleaning it might make it worse. Possible that dampness did that in the first place.

Now, I have the really dark blue which looks black but isn't, and apparently I have one on the way to me which the seller guarantees is black. I'm sceptical as I'm not certain a black existed. If it is black, great. If not, I will have a very dark blue available shortly.
