I think maybe long time collectors just assume everyone is just aware of stuff.
Doug Saito is a CCGTCC Hall of Fame member. He is the author of Chip Chat, a chip collecting newsletter. There have been 49 issues and Doug promises one last issue. He also holds chip auctions before the SuperBowl show and the June convention. Doug's focus is primarily Nevada but also California card rooms. Issues of Chip Chat as well as Doug's auction catalogs are full of carefully researched info on the casinos, their owners and their chips. If I were advising a new collector who wanted to collect older Nevada chips I would strongly recommend purchasing all the back issues of Chip Chat and past auction catalogs. I kind of remember that Tyrus Mulkey was selling these.
Doug's auctions are open to all Club members. The catalogs are for sale (by mail but not at the auction.) It's a fun time even without bidding. He has limited phone bidding if you cannot attend. Doug's disinterest in the internet is legendary. So his contact info is:
