First of all, there is no design on the outter rim, it is plain. Knowing the construction of this one piece injection mold type chip ... what you see in white letters, plus the central design, is actually raised on a plastic core and then plastic color material is poured around the raised cores so that the raised white portion shows through the injected color materials on the finished product. Thus, it is the core of some of the chips that was made in error and only the cores that were manufactured from that particular die would be that way. *I have not seen an error PB roulette where the error appeared on both sides. One side has the error, the other side is normal. By far, the overwhelming majority of these chips are the same (what I call "normal") on both sides. Perhaps most of these error chips may have been pulled at the factory during quality control inspections, as I have seen very few error examples compared to the litterally thousands of PB roulettes that I've had the occassion to go through. I used to purchase boxes and boxes of Playboy and Atlantis roulettes from various local sources after the Trump Regency was demolished. Bob Mera and his half-brother Mike was another great source. We would exchange boxes and half-boxes of different PB designs that we had duplicate boxes of. These chips also appeared in local flea markets and yard sales. One yard saler in A.C. who was a security officer at Atlantis told me that he gave them to his kids to play with like tidly winks. I've also purchased several boxes of PB roulettes from an antiques shop in Margate. I have not come accross any boxes for sale though in the past several years. They seem to have all been dispersed.

On edge insert type chips that you mentioned, in photos I have seen of this type chip manufacture, there is an actual notch in the body of the chip into which the various color insert clay materials are inserted before being pressed.

BTW: If anyone has the following PB roulettes they would like to sell, I'm paying $35 each to complete my personal collection;
Firecracker green
Pinwheel pink
Sunburst beige
Windmill pink, dk blue, lt blue
3 Diamonds dk blue
4 suits brown
4 squares green, dk blue
