Re: (NCR) I'm skeptical

I hope this project gets off the ground ... but I'm skeptical, at least in the near term.

The train service is described as going from Fullerton (Central Orange County, CA) to Las Vegas (Plaza Hotel) for $99 (One way cost, I assume).
Though they do throw in "Las Vegas Class food & beverage" service, whatever that is. Trip is quoted as 5 hours.

On the plus side, you can walk around on the train, and it's supposed to be "party" atmosphere. It would be cool if they allowed gambling within Nevada borders, but I doubt that Nevada Gaming would approve ... or that it would be logistically feasible.

On top of the $99 per person (each way?) cost, there's $20-$30 to park at Fullerton train station for a couple of nights, and the cost of taxis / car rental in Las Vegas. Then there's getting to Fullerton, which is about 30-40 minutes from typical locations in Los Angeles, and 20+ minutes from Disneyland area.

As alternatives, flying gets you there lots faster for the same price, or sometimes less. Airport parking a bit more, but close.

Compared to driving, it's only 4 1/2 hours from my house (Orange County) to LV, unless you hit the peak weekend & holiday times. Gas is about $50 each way, and extra passengers are free, unlike the train or plane. Plus, you have a car to drive when in LV.

Except as an alternative for those peak times when I-15 can be jammed, it doesn't pencil out for me ... or for most folks from So. California, in my opinion.

(A better alternative, IMO, would be a high-speed train, with a dedicated track that would make the trip in 2 hours or so. There was such a proposal, for a high-speed train LA to LV, with one stop in Primm. It would cost A LOT to build. Proposal was pre-financial crash, and haven't heard anything recently on it.)

As to the build-out for the X-Train, it appears that the train would share existing tracks between Fullerton & LV, which may mean delays with competing freight trains. The Fullerton station is an operating passenger station for commuter trains, but on the other end, I think the Plaza took out the old passenger stop behind the building. A spur & related improvements would need to be built.

And as for their financial ability to make this happen, I have no idea, but their market cap is $16 million, and their penny-stock currently trades at 15 cents per share. Much as I'd like to harvest some X-Train chips while playing craps between Primm & Las Vegas, my opinion of the odds is like throwing double-boxcars. (Sorry for the pun.) vbg
