Military Chip of the Day

Truth be told, today's item is not a chip, but rather scrip from a "Casino Night" held at the Misawa NCO Club (northern Japan). Misawa was my last duty posting before retirement from that job. While slot machines, which had been pulled during the military conflict in Vietnam due to corruption, were now back in the overseas clubs, they used US coins (5c, 10c, & 25c). But every once in awhile, clubs would hold a "Casino Night" where the players would purchase script to play the various games, and then the winners would than use the script to bid on auction items at the end of the night.

Military clubs operated under what is known as 'non-appropriated funds' which in plain language, no taxpayer dollars (in theory) were spent for daily operations. Thus, they have to depend on profits from what memebers spent in the club. Some of this came from dues, liquor and food sales, as well as currency conversion, but a LARGE part of these funds came from gaming operations such as the slot machines (for which there are thousands of different tokens).

Sorry to say, I do not have any of these for sale, but they do pop up on feebay from time to time.

John
