Silverbird & Borland connection
In Response To: wanted Silverbird-LV Items ()

Some of the newer chippers may not be aware of the Silverbird-Borland connection --

Back when the Silverbird closed (went bankrupt), its assets were sold to pay off debts. The buyer of the Silverbird racks of chips, and some other stuff, was Bill Borland. He subsequently advertised the Silverbird chips for sale, as the "debtor-in-possession" of these items. That's how I first started buying chips from him -- in response to one of his ads.

I believe there was a dispute with Nevada Gaming, as to his ability to acquire these items vs. Gaming's authority to order the chips destroyed. But he must have won, or reached an accommodation with them, as he continued to sell the Silverbird chips.

And I think there was a similar event regarding chips & related stuff from the Mapes / Money Tree in Reno, when it closed. Borland was pretty active in those days.

This was all quite a few years ago, in my early days of chip collecting and before the club was formed... so I may not be completely accurate on all the details. But that's how I recall it.
