Where I work... A little more insight

In Iowa we also confiscate winnings from banned gamblers at slot machines and table games - table games are a little more difficult because we have to determine the winnings. All confiscated winnings go to the state treatment program. As for slots we also get our fair share of abandoned jackpots - where a taxable jackpot is hit, the guest knows that they are banned and flee. We catch most of our banned gamblers at the cage, many times attempting to write checks or do credit card advances.

Also in Iowa we also do a SS# search in the state database to determine if the guest owes money (i.e. Child Support, Fines, Back Taxes) on every taxable jackpot ($1200) or more. If there is a hit on the database we have to collect the money for the state. That is always a fun conversation with the guest grin
