Photoshop guidance

Hey folks,

I have started to scan a few of my chips and need some help with Photoshop. Since some of these scans will be used for the website I am developing, and some will be submitted to the MOGH I would like to do them the best I can. I have been playing with the program and would like to know two things.

1) The alignment for some of the scans is slightly off. I have been playing with the alignment tools, but after the photo is shifted I am not sure how to even out the background. Is there an easy way.
2) Is there an easy way to combine images when a chip obverse and reverse are different? I have tried this and the images always get pasted on top of each other, and I can't seem to shift them side by side.

Any advice would be appreciated.
