Re: My Two Cents
In Response To: My Two Cents ()

The flaw in your statement is “Twice as cold means half as warm.”
First of all, regardless of what scale you use, you are measuring the heat not the ‘cold’. {ABSOLUTE}Zero degrees Fahrenheit is 459.67 degrees on the Rankine scale. You are correct in that statement. So. Why 459.67° and not an even lower number? Because there is no more heat to measure, molecular motion stops.

Assuming we are measuring heat, there is no lower number because there is nothing left to measure. If we are measuring cold, then once we have removed all the heat it should be much easier to get even colder. Right?

There is no upper limit to heat, so there should be no lower limit to cold. Right? If so, why do temperature readings have a ‘bottom’ limit? Reason, there is no more heat to measure.

If your statement holds true then the possibility that one could say it is 459.67° Rankine, and we expect to be twice as cold by tomorrow. Now is there a flaw in the statement?

You cannot measure the absence of something. “I am broke! Tomorrow, I will be twice as broke….” How much money will I have tomorrow, regardless of scale.
