Dan, Pricing Rule-of-Thumb...
In Response To: Unknown Chips ()

Dan,

Chips of this category (monogramed chips, probably from an un-licensed gaming operation) that are unknown as to origin, are typically bought and sold for $5 a piece. However, if in quantity, then they can go for 5 for $10 and 50 for $30 or $40. Again, this is if they are not attributable to a specific gaming operation. This is probably because there is always the possibility that they are just personal, home game chips, which do not command higher values unless assocdiated to a specific person of fame or notoriety.

If the chips are identified to a specific person of fame or notoriety or to a specific gaming operation of fame or notoriety, then there is a possibility for an increase of value. However, quantity of chips will play a factor. Generally speaking, the greater the quantity and the equality of condition, the value per piece will be less. Better conditioned pieces will fair better than the avaerage or poorer conditioned chips. Yoy will need to keep in mind that there may be about 20 serious collectors of this kind of chip, so afetr each of them have an example, the remaining lot is not in demand!

I hope this helps and while I know it won't yield un-told riches to you, the community says Thanks for adding another thread to the fabric gaming chip collecting!

Jim
