There is hope..slim and none!

If you can find someone with an equally old 386 or 486 computer that still has the DOS operating system running Win. 3.1 or 3.1 For Workgroups then that's a plus. Without sounding too complicated, you have to send an ASCII file through your printer port (if one is visible) on the EasyWriter to the serial port on the old PC via a laplink cable -- two way. Using DOS commands, you have to LPT (line printer) filename to floppy disk in this case A:/ However, before you do that, the floppy has to be formatted to the correct size and a destination filename created (i.e. A:/EWFiles) Everything has to be done correctly from capturing the ASCII output and converting it to a print file on a floppy. There are no other DOS commands to help. What you get if successful, will be a lot a odd shaped characters mixed in with letters that when edited, can make words. Now, finding the DOS 3.1 program, running and a 51/2 floppy disk, running and a laplink cable (who knows where you get one, unless you know the pin configuration to make one yourself) and then capture something that looks like a modern day printer error of lines of Chinese-looking characters) and then taking the time to edit to make any semblance of sense. Cut your losses and recreate from memory what you can and then make up the rest of it. As they say in the news business, "don't let the facts get in the way of good story."
Or, you can search the web and find someone who has the French version of the FORTH machine language used to create the text. He can convert it using the French converter software. Then it must be translated into English....Or, there are people who will convert it for you for about $25 a disk. If there is something of great value on those disks, it might be worth it. But, if it's the same old BS that can be obtained elsewhere, cut your loses. Time to fold them, partner! BTW, the creator of FORTH machine language did it while serving a jail sentence. You can find a story about him on the web. Try this link: http://www.webcrunchers.com/stories/easywriter.html
