NCR, BankNote of the Day- Space

Celebrating a 30 year span, the space shuttle ends its lifespan. With that, today’s featured Banknote of the day is a 1999 Millennium (MM in Serial Number) issue of 5 pounds sterling. The issuing of banknotes in Northern Ireland is regulated by the Currency and Banknotes Act 1928. This is the only banknote with the depiction of the shuttle on it, while a few other world notes depict unmanned crafts, none show any manned vehicles. It is a polymer note and the ‘black’ areas are actually clear (the black is from the background of my scanner). The note is printed by the CBN (Canadian Banknote Company) and carries an approximate $15 US book value.

From 1800 to 1921 Ireland was an integral part of the United Kingdom. The Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921 established the Irish Free State of 20 counties within the Commonwealth of Nations and recognized the partition of Ireland. The six predominantly Protestant counties of northeast Ulster chose to remain part of the United Kingdom with a limited self-government. ENJOY!!Languages: Irish, English
Religions: Roman Catholic, Protestant
Status: UN Country
