WiFi may be available at the Convention

I am currently evaluating the Clear 4G WiMax wireless service for my own use as a roving source of Internet connection. They provice service in my home town of Portland, and also serve Las Vegas. They offer sereral kinds of hardware to serve as a "modem" to receive their signals from towers around the city served and make it available to PC users. I tried the portable version of the modem when I was in Las Vegas last month and had mixed results. If you were near a window and could get some kind of line of sight to a tower, you could connect to the Internet. If you were at an interior location in a hotel, you likely could not connect.

I will be bringing a "home modem" which has better antennas to the Convention and will see if I can get a decent signal in the South Point ballrooms. If so, I'll set up a WiFi hot spot for use by Members in the bourse area. If this works, there will be connectivity for up to 8 users at a time. I'll provide some printed cards with info on how to connect to the hot-spot. You should be aware that although there will be some security on the site, you should treat it as you would any other public network, like that at the airports.

At home under the proper conditions, I can get a 6-8 Mega-bit connection. That should be plenty for 8 users, as long as they use some discretion about downloading extremely large files. No movie viewing, please grin .

If you want service in your room at the hotel, or in other public areas, you'll have to use the service provided by South Point at at fee.

I hope this works!
