The problem with jewelry is that most people don't buy a lot of it so the mark up at the store is something like 500%. Just try and sell something you bought at a store and see what the offer is. One time I was at an auction where they had lots of bags of rings from a jeweler. They were all 10-14K rings some with various stones. Nothing fantastic but I figure that if I could get one bag at the right price I could sell them on ebay. I did buy one bag for $125 and it had something like 25 rings in it. I am still kicking myself for not buying all of the rest of them (there must have been another 15 bags) since I sold all of the rings for at least $10-$30 each and I kept the best one for myself. It weighs 6 grams and has 7 nice diamonds in it and had a "retail" price of $2000. I figure it was worth more like $500 but still a pretty nice find.
