Question: I am enclosing photos of fivegambling
chips found among my late husband's things. Are
they collectible and, if so, what is their worth? - C.S.,
Margate

Answer: Archie Black, of Brick, is a veteran casino chip
collector, founding president of the Casino Chip
and Gaming Token Collectors Club and author of
"Black's Catalog of Atlantic City Casino Chips and
Gaming Tokens." He has provided information about
your four chips and single casino token.

Black noted that the $2.50 Playboy casino chip
(1981-1984) shownin your photo once sold for $75
to $80, but its value plummeted in2008 after a buried
hoard of Playboy metal-center chips wasdiscovered in
Mississippi. Shipped to that state for destruction
in1984, the chips were covered with concrete and
later unearthed whena construction project began.
The present value of your chip is$10.

The $2.50 Park Place chip that appears in the photo
was on thetables when the casino opened in 1979
and currently retails for $10to $14. Your well-used
$1 Las Vegas Sahara chip brings $3 to $5 anda fairly
recent-issue ceramic $1 Re-sorts chip housed in
asplit-ring key holder is selling for $3 to $4.

Black reports your gilt Atlantis Reel Winners token
featuring astylized scallop shell was a circa 1985 to
1990s promotional item.Such tokens, accumulated by
slot-machine players and redeem-ed forfree lodging,
meals and show tickets, are valued at $2 to $3.
