FYVP: Silver Smith Brass Core Variations

For your viewing pleasure...

I have been acquiring several color variations of Silver Smith $1 and $5 brass cores. All have the injection mark and appear to be authentic factory-produced. One I got from a gentleman who used to be a manager at Silver Smith and supervised the destruction of their chips. It had been in the vault for as long as he'd worked there, but he didn't know why it was made. I recently picked this one up off eBay (thanks Walt!) and I really love it. This may have been a test piece. Silver Smith never had a white brass core, and this plastic is "muddy." There apparently wasn't enough pressure and the core wasn't completely covered.

Here are some other variations. Note that the blue $5 is the newer shade of blue, not the original turquoise, which probably means these were made during the reorder.
