Designated smoking area(s) at McCarran

I was in Las Vegas this past weekend for a little fun and a bunch of work at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I flew Frontier so my gates were on the D concourse. I was very surprised on arrival to see the glassed-in slot machine area on that concourse was once again a designated smoking area. The glass walls meet the ceiling, there is ventilation in the ceiling above the area, and instead of having open sections of the glass entryways, it now has motion activated sliding glass doors on both sides. I don't know if any of the old glassed-in slot areas that were designated smoking areas on the A,B or C concourses have been converted back into designated smoking areas, but as a smoker, I'm happy to see an airport that is making a small effort to reverse the trend of the last 2 decades to once again treat smokers as people instead of lepers.

A side note....I stayed at the Riv, as I did for a February visit, and the new owners are really turning the old girl around. The vibe in the place is so much better than it was 3 years ago. The casino floor wasn't dead, the employees all had a much more positive attitude, they've kept the gaming very player friendly - $5 3:2 BJ and $5 craps tables available all day everyday, and while Nick is at Le Bistro Bar now instead of the long gone Splashbar, he's a happy camper. It was great to see him happy again! ....and I was pretty happy when I hit my first ever Riviera royal flush playing a quarter progressive machine at Le Bistro Thursday morning! grin
