No Chip content - all in one printer recomendation

I need a new printer and I'm looking at all in one units for the functionality they offer.

In the past I had an Epson (can't recall the model) that printed nice photos but seemed to be an ink hog. I think I'm going to start getting photos printed at Costco so any pictures I print with my new one will be one-offs that I just don't want to order or ones that I wnat to print right away without waiting.

So, I would like decent photo quality. but primarily the printer will just be used to print text stuff at home.

I don't want to send more than $100.

Can anybody recommend a decent one they've had good experiences with that also doesn't suck down the ink like it's going out of style? I think printers with individual ink cartridges would be more economical as then you only have to replace the particular ink you ran out of.

I know it's a trade off. I want a cheap printer and decent quality but I'd like to know some real world recommendations if anybody has them.

online product reviews are helpful but for every bad one there are great ones too so it's hard to know what the truth is.

Thanks

Michael
