In answer to the two types or variants of Silver Smith $25 chips. The darker specimen is definitely the original brass-slug core chip manufactured in the late 1970's when brass-slug cores were first put into play at Northern Nevada casinos, Harrah's, Hyatt, Harvey's. The lighter-colored variant was made by Reliable, who bought out the original manufacturer and who manufactured replacement chips for the Silver Smith in the late 1990's (I'd have to double check my manufacturing records), it's a cheaply made chip in comparison to the original brass slug cores, especially since brass was way too expensive for Reliable and cheaper metals were used. That's the reason why it's lighter in weight. Cheap manufacturing methods are also seen in the plastic covering overlapping the exposed "brass" edge insert.
