"CASINOS" by Ralph Tegtmeier sez:
In Response To: WikiPedia sez:... ()

"In Baden-Baden, life was calmer [than other spa resorts of the day]. The gambling regulations had been laid down in 1748; when the resort later became part of the Napoleonic Empire."

A few years ago I was granted permission by HARPER'S to reprint a first-hand reported article published in their June, 1872, issue... "The Garman Gambling Spas" of which its contents are as though the writer was explaining the action in today's Las Vegas, today... with over 24 plates with diagrams of their actual Roulette layouts as well as Rough-et-Noir layout... and stories of some noted gamblers of the day as well as sketches of them. The most action-packed account of German casino gambling I've ever read by someone who was actually there.

If I find the a copy I'll gladly send it to you or you can ask about, as I made many copies and distributed them here (archived)... Otherwise, the next time I'm down to the vault I'll try and fetch the original 1872 pages and send you copies. In fact, the article serves me no purpose in the vault, so I'll gift deed it to our club library later on.
