Re: NCR OK you Vegas guys......
In Response To: NCR OK you Vegas guys...... ()

I personally don't think the Vegas Strip area is any place to take a 10 year old. Not much for them to do and too many wild people and weirdos (and seriously, Circus Circus is a dump).
And to say nothing of how expensive the strip can be. A few weeks ago, I got the late night munchies while we were staying at a Strip hotel (comp'ed of course)...then I found out a cheeseburger and fries was $13 in the coffee shop.....gag!
I think you would all be happiest at the South Point, Silverton , Orleans or M Resort. All located south of the Strip ('cept the Orleans, which is slightly West on Tropicana Ave.).
Personally, I think the South Point is the best bang for your money.
Very, very clean rooms.
Great service by the staff and an all around relaxing atmosphere .
Security is taken seriously here. I've never been afraid or nervous to walk around alone at night.
Reasonable and plentiful food options (midnight specials in the coffee shop are great!).
Movie theater, arcade and bowling alley will keep your 10 year old happy. Very often there are horse events held on the weekends at the horse arena (just a short walk on the property). Horse events are often free for visitors.
The Outlet mall is just down the road a bit and I know your wife would have a blast shopping there. If you plan to shop, stuff a fold able duffel bag in your suitcase for your new treasures. The South Point even has a business center that can mail extra goodies home for you.
Walmart is also just a few block East from the hotel on Silverado Ranch Rd. There are also other stores around it for anything you may need. The South Point gift shop also has a very nice selection of beverages and munchies.
Don't know what time of the year you are coming to visit, but all the resorts mentioned above have nice pools. We have been to several Strip resorts that were out of chairs by 9 am on a warm day, but we've never had that problem with an off-strip hotel.
Although I love the off-strip hotels, and many have a shuttle system to the strip, I would recommend renting a car.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
