If you present a significant amount of chips, the cage will ask if you have markers out and probably for ID. If it's only a couple of hundred, you're right, they won't bother to ask. Also depends on whether you are a known player.

This is kind of related to the earlier discussions of who can cash big chips at the cage (1000's for example). They want to know not only whehter you won them, but whether you owe them any money [g].
