Actually, EVERYTHING is affected by magnetism. It is just that many things are only slightly affected. That is because of the electron in the atom is affected. Non-magnetic refers mostly to non-ferrous metals but if you hold a comb near your dry hair after the comb had been vigorously rubbed with a nylon cloth, your hair will stand up and none of the items used were considered ‘magnetic’.

The same principle is used on an MRI machine in hospitals. An extremely high powered electro magnet pulses and the electrons in the hydrogen molecules all ‘line-up’ in the same direction due to the magnetism and in that instant an image is made. The process is repeated over and over until a complete scan is made.

During the process the magnetic force is so great it will attract stainless steel instruments that are ‘non-magnetic’ making metals in close proximity to the MRI machine very dangerous as they can become flying objects.
