IMHO, a scanner for chips....Charles, with that scanner, you should be getting great results....can you post some examples to show what your not happy with?..a point and shoot camera would be fine for chips, but if youre not willing to invest say 50 bucks for a light box, your going to have flare from the flash, etc..here is 2 examples...1st with my camera, 2nd, scanner.
