Octagon post for Judy W, Andy H & chipco experts!

Need help people!!!

I picked this up the other day. Firstlly an awesome Australian Octagon that I've never seen before....but......I've never seen this type before.

My first thoughts are this was a NN chip drilled and made into a keyring. It would seem strange that a casino would make a $500NN chip as a souvenir....but then much stranger things have been known to happen.....which brings me to the bit that I need help with.

As far as I can tell, it is a chipco octagon. The linen finish can clearly be seen. But.....has anyone ever seen a chipco chip with resin or acrylic on both sides? (but not the edges). The acrylic? is on both sides and formas a very slight rounded dome on each side. I can't recall ever seeing this on any other chipco chip. Does anyone know if this is something that Chipco did or could it have been an after market thing?

Hope the experts can shed some light. I will have to contact Canberra Casino after the silly season is over and see if they can confirm if an octagonal $500NN was ever used on the tables. Interestingly though, it is the same design etc as the $5NN (also shown below) and almost the same colors?!?

Thought? Opinions?

Cheers guys & gals, Happy Holiday season to you all!!!

Tim.
