Re: Heritage Auctions -- Results

I checked the prices realized for the 12 casino chips in the auction.
-- 2 chips had competitive bidding and sold in excess of starting bids (but below the low catalog estimate) -- $3250 and $3000.
-- 4 chips sold at the starting bid with 1 bidder -- $600, $9000, $550 and $750.
-- 6 chips unsold at the minimum starting bid. (These have a "buy it now" and "make offer" post-auction options, so it's possible some may sell later.)

The quantity of chip lots and competition seems quite a bit lighter than the first Heritage chip auction 6 months ago.

I'm supportive of introducing chips to the broader collectors market, and hope this venue finds an appropriate niche with higher-value chip sales.
However, the costs of participating are pretty steep, IMO, as compared to other venues: 19.5% seller's commission + 19.5% buyer's premium + sales taxes on purchases delivered to California (and Texas too, I think). Add a bit for shipping & insurance, and the total spread is around 50% of hammer price.
