You are right about registry cleaners. I have been using one for several years and it really does keep things running smoothly. The one I have been using is 'Registry First Aid' from Rose City Software. I can't recommend one over another as this is the only one I have tried.. but whatever you try, check it out first as they all do the same thing.

I use the registry cleaner at least once a week.
