Up for auction tonight ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150494163790 ) is one of the first crest and seal chips ever made (c. 1900), with the image of the famous American celebrity jockey "Tod" Sloane on it (more on that, below).

George M. Cohan's first big Broadway hit, in 1904, was the show "Little Johnny Jones," which introduced his tunes "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "The Yankee Doodle Boy." THAT SHOW WAS ABOUT "TOD" SLOANE. "Tod" Sloane was the Yankee Doodle Boy! In 1942 James Cagney starred in (and won a Best Actor Oscar for) the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy" about the life of Cohan, the preeminent American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, and producer. Click below to see two amazing video chips of Cagney's performance as George M. Cohan as "Tod" Sloane:

(1) This wonderful 2-minute clip deals with Sloane being accused of fixing a race and awaiting a signal from an ocean liner that he has been cleared. Cagney dances to the tune of "Give My Regards to Broadway. It takes a second or two to start after clicking:"

(2) This 1-1/2-minute clip has Cagney singing the Yankee Doodle song and dancing in Sloane's innovative "monkey crouch" horse-racing style:

Read the auction description to learn about the chip and "proof" that it is among the first crest and seal chips ever made (in the period 1896-1910):
