Re: Question about poker ?
In Response To: Question about poker ? ()

Both games are very fun to play for me. Your question was: "Is that kind of a stupid game or is it me?" Your question contains it's own answer John. No Limit & Fixed Limit are not the same game at all.

FIXED LIMIT will give you a good "taste" for the game without getting hurt too bad. You will be able to see more flops with marginal starting hands and play more hands. The problem with FIXED LIMIT is this... when you have a good starting hand such as a PAIR and a post flop hand such as TRIPS (Three of a kind) but the board shows two suited cards, there is a chance that your opponent might be holding two of the same suit and hold four cards to his FLUSH. You really can do nothing "bet wise" to keep him from drawing to his FLUSH. He will call or check call on each card and there is nothing you can do to stop him. If the suited card comes and he bets out or check raises, your trips are probably no good but you will probably call his raise to see his FLUSH. Fun!

NO LIMIT: lets say HE has the pocket pair with TRIPS post flop this time and You have four to the FLUSH. He knows that if you CHECK you are probably on a DRAW and he needs to get you to make a very tough decision. He will make a very large bet or he might even go ALL IN. Lets say you make the CALL and your FLUSH comes. Is it good? If there is no PAIR on the board your FLUSH can only beat by a higher FLUSH or a STRAIGHT FLUSH. The only way there can be a FULL HOUSE to beat you is when there is a PAIR on the board. If you are holding an ACE and a STRAIGHT FLUSH can not be made with the three suited cards on the board, you are holding THE NUTS as they say... when you have the "best possible hand that can be made with the cards on the board." Very much Fun!

The PROs have a saying, "When you are sitting at a poker table, and you can not figure out who the FISH is when you look around... It's You!" I guess the answer to your question is... the guys who play NO LIMIT poker view 3/6 as a stupid game. Personally, I like No Limit Tournament Hold Em and on line poker Sit & Go low stakes games. In a casino I will play 3/6 or 4/8 to see how things go but if I have a nice bankroll, I will play 1/2 ALL IN and play VERY TIGHT until I can get a pile of chips in front on me. If I sit at an ALL IN table, I will try to sit at a table where all the players have about the same stack of chips. If one player has a huge stack of chips, he holds the advantage of playing POWER POKER with his stack and you will be forced to make some very tough decisions playing his game. I am not a pro but I love playing this game! USA
