able to discern the metal, especially when an alloy is often used, it has been my experience that there is a certain number of collectors that generically refer to this style of chip as a PMSC chip. However, there is a number of people that are not familiar with the PMSC designation, yet have some or many actual brass core chips, and only use the term "brass core" for the style of chip.

It is somewhat akin to Kleenex (a brand name) being used to define a tissue regardless of the brand. While technically wrong, when you want one, most everyone will realize that you have a runny nose. vbg
