Thanks to the posting John Zoesch (R-3145) made yesterday concerning the fantastic sale on Owens-Corning home insulation, I loaded myself into the car this morning armed with the weekly sale internet ad from Lowe's (30% off all in-stock insulation).
Since as John said, the price has come down ALOT since last spring (When I last did a quick estimate of what it would cost to add additional insulation to our attic...$700), plus the chance to save an additional 30% had my hiney in high-gear to get the job done. To say nothing of the energy-savings tax credit I can also claim when I do our taxes next February.
I went to our local Home Depot (Cedar City, UT...we have no local Lowe's...closest Lowe's is probably 50+ miles away) and was very happy to find huge bins full of the R-30 unfaced insulation that I needed.
My happiness turned to dismay when I realized that there was absolutely NO WAY that 33 rolls of insulation were going to fit into my car....I'd be lucky if I could get all the rolls home in three trips.... yippee, here came the young man in charge of the insulation area. He explained that delivery would be $75 ....OR.... they had a nice, new Ford Super Duty truck outfitted with a flat bed for rent for $25 (plus gas) for 75 minutes. Happy day, sign me up!
By the time I had filled out the paperwork (driver's license, CC info and proof of insurance), the wonderful young men at Home Depot had loaded all the insulation into the truck and ratcheted it down for me (even providing the ratchet tie-downs). The truck was clean, all oil change and inspection stickers were up to date, and someone had even left the radio on my favorite station!
As I was paying for the insulation, it came up that Lowe's sale price on a roll of R-30 insulation was $6.56 (Home Depot had the rolls sale marked $9.97 each) .....Home Depot met Lowe's price and took an additional 10% off...for a total of $5.90 a roll. Amazing, since each roll was $19-something last spring!
So a mega-massive, huge thanks to John Zoesch .....I told you chippers are the best!!
So if you are thinking of insulating anything - DO IT before November 15th (when the Lowe's sale ends)!
