Re: Remembering Greg
In Response To: Remembering Greg ()

Hey Jim,

Thank you for the condolences. You and all the other chippers were special friends to Greg, which makes you special to our family.

I'm so glad you gave the little bit of history about how Chipboard was founded--it brings the board and chip-collecting hobby to life all the more for us. You all might like to know I married Greg knowing he had expensive hobbies. While he never said it, I understood his personal motto was "Go big or don't go." He'd learn everything he could about the hobby, as fast as he could, and eventually move on to something else. When we married he was just giving up an interest in photography, which included owning studio lighting and darkroom equipment. That same year in 1981 he purchased his first PC, a Radio Shack TRS80, which served him for business purposes at the time. There are several pursuits that came between photography and chip collecting, but the PC led him to purchase a modem, which led to him getting on bulletin boards, the predecessor to IM and e-mail. He's a self-trained technie to which we can all testify to his expertise via the live feeds at the chip show, this Chipboard, his web site, and many other pursuits.

Greg tried to get me interested in chip collecting many a time, but it just didn't resonate with me as it did him. I have the notion now that collecting was the means to an end--friendship. If it's not too corny to say, Chip! Chip! Hooray! to Greg and all the chippers!

Love, Carol, Lauren & Robert
