It's the same risk as playing a $5 machine; you are just getting in more hands per hour of play at the machine... 10 times as many in this case. This is not the same as just increasing the denomination of machine you're playing, which requires a bigger bankroll to minimize "gambler's ruin".

If you are just paying for entertainment time in the casino, this is not the way to do it. If you are playing for players points, or drawing entry tickets as I was, it's a way to leverage your time at the machine with the same volatility.

If you have never played a multi-play machine, the experience is considerably different than on a single-play machine, and in my opinion, more exciting as you watch the independent draws ripple through the various hands in play. Action Gaming has made a mint on the patent for multi-game VP; you'll see their name on every multi-line machine made by IGT as granting a license to use their game on IGT hardware.
