Here's some info on Jackpot Junct Octagon chips

Jackpot Junction Casino is located in rural Morton, Minnesota. The name of their buffet is Carousel Buffet. The octagon chips with "LUNCH" and "DINNER" on them were used as a receipt for payment of a buffet meal. Upon payment, the cashier would give you a chip for each meal purchased. The chips were then picked up by the waitress as soon as you were seated. On rare occasion, casino staff would give away a chip as a "comp". The folks that ran the buffet never liked this, as it fouled up their accounting system. At least that's what they told me. What I did to obtain these chips, was to simply purchase extra buffet meals. I was usually there with one other person, but we would say that we were meeting another couple, and I was paying for their meals. That worked. I would get 2 extra chips to bring home with me. They would never, and I mean never, because I really tried, sell the chips outright. Another problem was that sometimes they would use paper tickets instead of chips as receipts for meals. More than once, I made the long drive to Morton, MN to pick up these octagon chips, only to be given a crummy paper receipt! The first time that this happened I got stuck with paper receipts for 4 meals, but there were only 2 of us! We ate real big that day. After that, I learned to follow someone else in line and see if they were given chips or paper receipts.

The use of these chips was discontinued about 4-5 years ago. I was at the Carousel Buffet about a week after the chips were discontinued. I talked to the Manager there, and tried to buy their entire stock of the now obsolete chips, but could not. Now for the really sad news. These chips, hundreds of them, were simply thrown out in the garbage. (Yes, I verified that the garbage had already been hauled away.) I would have loved to have been dumpster diving that day! However, there was some good news for me. The white and pink "LUNCH" chip shown in the CHIP GUIDE was called their sample chip. It was the only known chip that escaped the dumpster. They told me it was the only example they had in that color. I obtained it that day. The chips shown on the CHIP GUIDE show most, but not all, of the chips that were used at the buffet for several years. I think that there is a different colored chip for each day of the week, plus a couple of varieties. You don't see these chips for sale or trade very often.
