More FARO - History - Bucking the Tiger rules...

I do not know if there is much interest here but I really like Antique Chip History and the long forgotten game of FARO or the Americanized "Bucking the Tiger" game is very rich in early American Gambling History. A great link to the history of FARO and the rules to the Americanized game is in this site by Mark Howard. http://www.bcvc.net/faro/history.htm The game was a kind of cross between Craps & Roulette played with cards. FARO was played in Vegas up until about 1970 and until about 1985 in Reno & Tahoe. One thing that Mark did not cover was that the chips used to play the game covered both the Ivory chip era and the clay composition era that began in 1880. He does mention the game being played with Gold & Coins... Two bits .25, four bits .50, 1/4 Eagle $2.50, Half Eagle $5, Eagle $10, and Double Eagle $20.

These are MARKERS used to designate what player had what color. The markers with inserts I think might be a more modern type but they are probably Antique as well. The two markers pictured top left (pink & purple) are the only colors that I do not have coppers in... assuming that the clay coppers and markers were made in the same colors. Antique Faro markers measure 39.5mm X 22mm

Here are the seven colors of coppers that I have found. Coppers mearure 22.5mm about the same size as a 9/16 nut.

These are typical INLAID chips that were made for FARO, and also used in Roulette, and poker.
