St Louis and IL Illegal Casinos HELP-Long Post

In 1955 Edward O'Hare, a close associate of Buster Wortman, operator of several illegal joints in E ST Louis and Collinsville, Il bought the "Horeshoe" chips for The Terrace Lounge.

In 1959 Felix Francis McDonald (1904-1963) bought 18,000 of the same chips. Club Prevue and The Terrace Lounge were closed at this time in part due to Bobby Kennedy.

At a 1956 Federal Grand Jury hearing in East St. Louis, IL, McDonald was described as a "gambling associate" of Frank "Buster" Wortman, the gambling boss of East St. Louis and vicinity.

INFO from a club member that is helping me.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any reference to a particular place with which McDonald was associated. Wortman was associated with a lot of places and lived in Collinsville at the time the chips were ordered. Initially I thought the chips delivered to McDonald may have been used at Wortman's Club Prevue (which was located in EStL on the Collinsville border). Club Prevue's chip order in 1953 was for 25,000+ chips and was sent to Collinsville--similar to the horseshoe order. But, Club Preview was closed when McDonald ordered the chips.

In 1958 Wortman built a large structure surrounded by a "moat" on a 120 acre tract of land in Collinsville. It was rumored at the time it was being built that it was going to be used for gambling, but I didn't find any evidence that gambling occurred there, only that Wortman lived there.

There's a lot of possibilities were the chips were used, but I guess none will probably be satisfactory as an attribution without some identification with McDonald.
I sent an email to the St. Louis Public Library to see if they could find any reference in area city directories to McDonald having a club/bar, etc. but haven't heard anything from them.

MORE INFO on McDonald.
I've attached a pic of McDonald from 1934.

McDonald was in the papers alot in the early 30's because of his involvement in a kidnapping-for-ransom of a St. Louis physician. At the time of his indictment on the kidnapping charge he was serving 10 years on a robbery conviction; was found guilty in 1935 on the kidnapping charge and sentenced to 60 years; was out of jail by 1949.

HELP!!
The St Louis library did not send us info from the city directories or criss cross directories from 1957 thru 1961 as we asked.
Need someone that can stop by and look at them. McDonald has to be in them associated with a joint.
McDonald died in 1963 at the age of 59. Wondering if he crossed Wortman. grin
Special thanks to the club member that furnished most of the above research. The internet is a wonderful place, sometimes. grin
