Morning Cup o' Joe...Cleaning Antique Inlaid Chips

I do not want to start a big controversy on TO CLEAN or DO NOT CLEAN chips because that thread will go on forever. The truth is that most of us have our little secret ways to clean our chips and each type chip takes on it's own chalenge. I would like to share with you a method of cleaning ANTIQUE INLAID CHIPS that I have had success with. I have cleaned thousands of inlaid chips this way and if the inlay is tight it works very well.

Try this on the nastiest inlaid chip that you have first. You know...the one with cigarette burns and all covered with grime.
CAUTION: Use on INLAID chips only! Do not allow the chips to soak.
Dampen a clean terry towel with COLD water, fold and lay it flat in something like a plastic TV food tray.
Put a small pile of Smitty's magic inlaid chip cleaner at one end.
Gently work the chip in the cleanser using a circular motion. (If color comes off STOP! A little color is normal though)

Work excess off in the middle portion of the tray. Don't forget the edge.
Repeat until you get the desired results then wipe chip off on the clean end of the damp towel.
Gently wipe dry with a seperate clean dry terry towel and place the chip on an inclined edge of something allowing air to circulate to both sides of the chip and let it dry for several hours before stacking.

The cigarette burns can be removed in the same manor using 500 Tri-Mite paper wet. It will leave a small "blem" where the burn was but that unsightly burn is gone.

What is Smitty's magic inlaid chip cleaner? Anchient Chinese secret! I only tell my closest friends what it is. vbg

Make sure you get the "SCRATCH FREE" stuff and Bon Ami works well too but it is hard to find.
