The casino ran free flights from 16 major cities in order to keep the operation going. Locals here in Palm Beach and Broward would receive everything free; room, food and beverage... even taxes were picked up for the weekend hops (2-3 and 4-nite stays).

Their biggest comp program was during renovation when Crown Plaza/Holiday Inn set up on the property. We would go over every 2 or three weeks during that period, and prior to that when the Lucayan was closed by the government and during construction of the new Lucayan casino building; which was stretched-out for two years, they rally had a hayday with the only game in town.

After the first storm hit, the property was used for a shelter and then when Wilma hit it took out most of everything that was rebuilt. The only damage to the Lucayan property (right on the beach) was the carpeting and some trim.

Some of the staff had been there from when the casino first opened... in the good old days when the Brits ran the show. Then, when the curtain dropped, they spread out all over the map from Manchester to Central America and all points between.
