Re: Let's kick this idea around some...

The more I think about this idea, the more I like it. I was thinking of having the guide produced as a Word document, for example, that could be converted to a PDF file. This has the advantage of being portable, but has some disadvantages, including the fact that of all of the information would need to be organized by a single person before the project can move forward. This would create a bottleneck and possibly stall the project.

The wiki would require online access to use it, but would allow real-time updating by those working on it and allow multiple casinos to be worked on at a time, including the smaller places that Pam mentions in her post on the ccgtcc message board. There may be some quality-control issues, but there could be recommended standards for scan size and resolution, etc. I would assume we would also need some administrators who would review the pages periodically and do cleanup like they do on Wikipedia.

A few questions for Ross and others to consider...

Should the wiki be open to anyone to provide input to, or should there be some sort of permission granted?

Since this will be an image-intensive site, there will be a lot of storage and bandwidth required. Should all images be stored on a central server, or should users be allowed to add images that are hosted elsewhere?

Does the wiki format allow us a feasible way to put a static version on CD-ROM, or would it be useless without an internet connection because of the hyperlinks? I realize my idea of an electronic "printed" guide is a little old-fashioned, but I'm thinking about the fact that the neccessity to have an internet connection limits the benefit of the guide to internet users whereas some might print out a hard copy of a guide to use.
