Things are grim for Tahoe

Just my opinion... First off I love Lake Tahoe, my collection started with 2 decks of cards and a pair of dice from Harrah's Tahoe in 1975.

The Indian casinos are located closer to the market Lake Tahoe serves, closeness has a lot to do with a market that caters mainly to automobile traffic. The casinos are also newer. To build up the market in Lake Tahoe would take some very creative marketing, the casinos in Tahoe would need to re-invent themselves on how they market, they would need to remodel to compete with the flashier Indian casinos located closer to the market source.

Harrah's with 2 properties at Tahoe, does not have the capital anymore to do much anything, their cash flow is being diverted to try to buy back bonds at 30 cents on the dollar to avoid default and a possible bankruptcy. The Harrah's going private buyout was great for the shareholders (of the old public corporation), but has not been good for the new owners, it was over leveraged, based on cash flow projections which have not materialized. If Harrah's did have some capital to spend on projects, they probably would not be looking at Lake Tahoe, they would be looking for a market where they could possible see some return for the investment.

Columbia Sussex (Tropicana Casino Resorts) is in bankruptcy and they are going to lose one property (Horizon) which will be going back to the Park Cattle Company and Park stated that it will not have gaming when they take it back, Tropicana don't have money to do anything with the Mont Bleu.
