Albert, you are 100% right. Our government HAS failed us in not protecting the American worker and it's products but the government is not totally to blame.
For years, there was a dollar quota on imports. Many cars entered the US without air conditioning, WHY you might ask? No A/C reduced the cost of the vehicle and since there was no quota on parts, A/C systems were installed at the POE allowing that many more cars into the country tarrif free.
As I mentioned in a previous post, we have lost an entire generation to people that purchase foreign vehicles now.
A big part of it is due to the fact that for years, Detroit worked on the idea of planned obsolesence and wasn't concerned about turning out a quality product. Even to this day while many of the American cars rate right up there next to the foreign brands when you look at virtually ANY survey, those with the least complaints, least defects and least problems all seem to be non US brands.
I don't blame the Ameican auto worker for this as much as I blame design and engineering
