John Croft was an equal to Sammy Schraeder at Beverly Hills as far as Cleveland Syndicate was concerned. Both were Moe Dalitz men. John supposedly had the police in his pocket. He was a large man and mean when he had to be.
At one time John had control of the Yorkshire also.

Danny Nason swears this is true:
In a police raid they entered BH with axes.
There was a room where they kept all extra gaming supplies like an extra roulette wheel.
John stood in front of the door and said the police would have to use the AX on him before they used it on the door. The police backed off and left and never tried to enter the live gambling area.

John supposedly made millions during his era. When he died in the 70's, he was pennyless. His wife asked Cleveland for $ to bury him. They turned her down. Something happened during his last years and no one knows what it was.

John and Danny were friends and golfing partners. Danny met John in the 40's and has no info on the Washington DC chip order in 1933. That was pre BH era.
