NCR - I hit small end of "mini-bad beat" tonight!

The poker jackpot/bad beat at Harrah's Kansas City is just over $200,000 tonight and requires that Quads or better is beaten by another player and both players have to use both of their hole cards.

I got into a $3/$6 limit right after work today and was dealt 2-Clubs, 4-Clubs and I called the $3 bring-in. Another player (player A), raised, and another player (player B) re-raised, I called, and Player-A capped the betting. (Player A is someone whom I have played with before. He is a typical retired player that I've seen at Harrah's a lot and is really tight - I figured he must have Aces or Kings).

The flop was Ace-Clubs, 5-Clubs, Jack-Hearts

I checked, Player-A checked, Player-B bet, I called, action back to Player-A who now check-raises... Player-B called, I called. (I'm thinking Player-A has trip aces but at least I have a flush draw and a gut shot too and 3-Club gives me a straight-flush).

Turn card was Ace-Spades.

Player-A bets, Player-B calls, I call (At this point, I am praying to hit the 3-Clubs...)

River card... 3-Clubs!

I bet out, Player-A raises me and without a doubt I know we just hit the jackpot. Player-B folds and I tell Player-A, "I am only going to call and I hope you have Quads". I turned over my cards and showed the straight-flush, most of the table stood up and Player-A flipped his hand over and he only had Ace-Jack! sad

It still qualified for a mini-bad-beat (where Aces-over-Jacks are beaten). I won the pot plus $250 for the winning hand of the mini-bad-beat. Player-A won $750. A different player was telling me I should have re-raised since I had the nuts but all I could think about was getting the hand over and getting paid for the jackpot. More than one player thought for sure he had pocket aces and when I turned over my cards, they all thought we hit it. Oh well!
