NCR: Vernon Kilns RENO Souvenir Plate ....

I hope everyone had a GREAT THANKSGIVING DAY yesterday.

Today I'm showing one of my VERNON KILNS Souvenir Plates. Like Homer Laughlin, they're better known for their dinnerware, and they made some dinnerware on special order for restaurants. For those of you who showed your casino dinnerware collections the other night, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I really enjoyed everything you showed, but especially that plate shown by Al Moe. If anyone is interested in knowing something about the manufacturer of your collectible china, go ahead and send me an email - I'll b happy to help if I can.

Anyway, Vernon Kilns began making their souvenir plates in the early 1940s and continued until 1955, but City Plates weren't available after 1953. Unlike most transfer ware companies, they had quite a stable of talented artists who actually went to the different places to make pen and ink drawings of the "tourist attractions", and this plate is signed at the lower right by Erik Sederling. I find this one to be very interesting because HAROLDS CLUB is in the center, and then their SILVER DOLLAR BAR is also shown. Maybe Mr. Sederling's stay in Reno was comped by Harolds? I also like the drawing of DOUGLAS ALLEY.

Thanks Again for checking out my posts. ENJOY! Buzz
