When scanning printed material like postcards, look for an option in your scanner software called 'descreening'. Turn that on when scanning postcards, pictures printed in books, newspapers, etc. The scan will take a little big longer...but it will make the pictures look more natural and avoid those patterns like you see in the dark ceiling of the above card.
